For Churches

Care for the ones who lead.

A healthy church does not only care for its members. It also cares for the people who lead, teach, counsel, visit, pray, and carry responsibility behind the scenes.

01 — Why it matters

Pastoral wellbeing is stewardship

Pastoral wellbeing is not a personal luxury. It is stewardship of the people who carry the spiritual, emotional, and relational weight of a congregation. When a pastor is well cared for, the whole church benefits.

02 — Practical steps

How churches can support pastors

  • • Normalise counselling as part of caring for oneself, not as a sign of failure.
  • • Protect regular rest, Sabbath, and time away from ministry demands.
  • • Include mental wellbeing in staff review and pastoral care conversations.
  • • Consider a confidential care budget alongside training and books.
  • • Extend care to pastors' spouses and families, who also carry ministry.
03 — Funding

Funding counselling access

Churches can contribute to counselling access in simple, dignified ways — a standing care fund, a per-session subsidy, or a line item in the staff welfare budget. Where a gap remains, the Initiative may be able to help.

04 — Culture

Creating a culture where help-seeking is normal

Culture is built over time. When leaders speak openly about care, protect time for rest, and treat counselling as ordinary, the whole community learns that wellbeing is not weakness. It is faithful stewardship of the life entrusted to them.
